How many of you have thought or dreamed of becoming an author?

*Raises my hand* *While jumping up and down*!!

LOL!  I have a serious LOVE/obsession with words and books.  I have read hundreds, if not thousands of books.  I have read anything from informational and educational such as gardening and farming how-to’s, to romances, to horror fiction, to biographies, even shampoo bottles.  (Seriously, as a teenager I had a goal to be able to say all the ingredients in shampoo/conditioner without struggling…Total nerd here!!)  My love of words and books made learning in school actually FUN!  To do this day, I <3 <3 <3 learning something new.  The bajillion books I have read got me to thinking that it can’t be THAT hard to be an author!  Pishhh-posh!

It looked something like this:

  1. Choose your topic (after you break through the topic lock with too many choices!)
  2. Write the book. (Hopefully without too many episodes of “writer’s block”)
  3. Edit it. (Or find an editor)
  4. Choose the title. (If you haven’t already)
  5. Find an agent. (Yellow Pages???  LOL)
  6. Let the agent submit your manuscript to publishing houses.
  7. Wait…
  8. Wait some more…
  9. Get rejection letters in the mail.
  10. Maybe revise and resubmit…
  11. Wait…
  12. Wait some more… Or
  13. Maybe quit…
  14. Look into self-publishing.
  15. Try to get a second mortgage to pay for the book to be published, and then do the marketing to get it requested by retailers, or bought online.

Now, thanks to technology and a constant drive for the internet to be better and faster than ever, you can eliminate some of the more tedious steps from above.  Give these focused steps a try!

  1. Choose your topic (after you break through the topic lock with too many choices!)
  2. Write the book. (Hopefully without too many episodes of “writer’s block”)
  3. Edit it. (Or find an editor)
  4. Choose the title. (If you haven’t already)
  5. Look into self-publishing.
  6. Choose your publisher and package!

Even easier??

Your “baby” never leaves your hands!  You control every step of the way!

  • Choose your topic (after you break through the topic lock with too many choices!)

  • Write the book. (Hopefully without too many episodes of “writer’s block”)

  • Edit it. (Or find an editor)

  • Choose the title. (If you haven’t already)

  • Design your book cover.

  • Format it.

  • Upload your book to Kindle.

  • Publish it!!

  • Lastly, market/advertise access to it on any social media or even on Amazon.

Obviously, this is just an overview, and the actual steps will be specific and detailed, but it gives you a direction to think in.
